15 years ago today, my father, Vittorio G. Cavaiuolo Aka: The Roma Tailor; Aka: Mr. Roma; Aka: Mr. C. passed away. It is so hard to believe that it has been 15 years. I miss him every day, especially when I need new pants altered. Last year, while I was going through some of my dad’s papers, I found this envelope addressed to his family. Inside, was a letter to us; an obituary that he wrote for himself that he wanted put in the paper, and information relative to how he wished to be buried. Unfortunately, I did not have this at the time of his death, so on this anniversary of 15 years I wish to share it with all those who knew and loved my father.

This is what he wanted written about him: Mr. Vittorio Cavaiuolo, better known as Roma Tailor, died on date so and so (6/3/2005). Born in San Martino, Avellino on 4-14-27. He came to Lockport on March 26, 1960 engaging in the art of being a Tailor. He is well known by many for his abilities/skills, and his honesty. He wishes to thank his clients for allowing him the opportunity to raise his wonderful and honest family.

This is the cross that he wanted on his grave. In his letter he said: I don’t want a stone, only a cross made of 2 pieces of wood. Simple and humble.

Thank you for indulging me. Today, if you can or are willing, think fondly of my father, and remember that he loved his clients, he loved being a tailor (and he was outstanding), he loved, Lockport and the USA and more importantly, he loved and was proud of his wife, children, and grandchildren. We all gave him great joy and he is greatly missed. I love you dad.

In loving memory. Your daughter, Lucy
